Before Your Rotation


  • Two- or four-week rotation open to all residents
  • No call or weekend responsibilities
  • All clinical experiences at Comer, additional off-site clinical opportunities available upon request

Roles and Responsibilities

As a part of this rotation, residents will participate in inpatient consultations and attend outpatient clinics under the direct supervision of a Pediatric Cardiologist in the following settings:

  • Inpatient Cardiology Service (covered by the Maroon team)
  • NICU
  • Comer II Outpatient Clinics

The expectations of the rotation are the following:

  • Attend morning and noon conference when at Comer
  • Residents on sick or jeopardy call must carry their pagers at all times or appropriately forward this to an appropriate phone number where they can be reached. If activated for sick or jeopardy call, they must contact the director of the rotation to alert them of their absence
  • Presence during Friday Cardiology Surgical Conference at 7:30am in Mitchell
  • Presence during cardiac catheterizations
    • To be arranged with direct contact with Dr. Daniel Gruenstein, Section Chief of Cardiology and Director of Pediatric Catheterization Laboratory
  • Participation in outpatient cardiology clinics
  • Inpatient consult participation; findings and plans discussed with the on-service attending, and the primary patient team
  • Observation of cardiac surgery
    • Work with the rotation leadership to arrange at the beginning of your rotation
