Welcome to the Palliative care elective! On this elective, you will see patients from both inpatient consults as well as patients in the PICU follow up and palliative care clinics. You will learn about appropriate use of opioid and non-opioid interventions for pain.

Before Your Rotation

  • Review the Goals and Objectives
  • Email Dr. Hoehn 2 weeks prior to the start of the rotation to discuss scheduling

  • Two- or four-week elective open to all residents
  • Residents are expected to attend morning report and noon conference on-site
  • There are no call or weekend responsibilities on this elective unless you are on sick or jeopardy call

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Residents should expect to see consults on the Comer wards and clinic patients in the outpatient setting
  • Residents will follow the consult patients they see, and communicate recommendations to the inpatient team
  • Residents on sick or jeopardy call must carry their pagers at all times or appropriately forward this to an appropriate phone number where they can be reached. If activated for sick or jeopardy call, they must contact the director of the rotation to alert them of their absence
